3rd day of competition auditions 29.11.2023

From 26 November to 2 December 2023, the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław hosted the first edition of the Karol Lipiński International Violin Competition. The competition brought together 19 young violinists from all over the world, who, having passed the preliminaries, were invited to compete directly and present their skills during the three stages of the tournament.

The performances of the young artists were judged by a Jury consisting of internationally renowned musicians and educators: prof. dr hab. Konstanty Andrzej Kulka (chairman of the Jury), prof. dr hab. Bartosz Bryła, prof. Florin Croitoru, dr hab. Paweł Jabłczyński, prof. AMKL, prof. dr hab. Jarosław Pietrzak. The role of Secretary of the Jury was performed by Magdalena Ziarkowska-Kołacka PhD.

After emotional auditions and a thorough evaluation of the performances, the Jury invited 10 violinists to the second stage of the competition. They were: Yuichiro Haruno (Japan), Park Hee Jin (Australia), Michał Krajewski (Poland), Milena Piorunska (Poland), Karolina Podorska (Poland), Reika Sato (Japan), Steven Song (USA), Misaki Tanaka (Japan), Gaja Wilewska (Poland), Barbara Żołnierczyk (Poland). In the second stage, the participants performed:

  • one of the Sonatas for violin and piano by the following composers: Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Edvard Grieg, Karol Szymanowski;
  • any virtuoso piece for solo violin or piano accompaniment, not exceeding 15 minutes;
  • the first movement with the cadence of one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Violin Concertos - KV 216, 218, 219.

The young violinists were accompanied by outstanding pianists: dr hab. Anna Rutkowska-Schock, prof. of the Academy of Music, Michał Francuz, dr hab. Julita Przybylska-Nowak, prof. of the Academy of Music, and Joanna Zathey PhD.
