Aleksandra Pijarowska PhD, prof. AMKL

A graduate in theory of music (diploma with honours) of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, where she also completed Postgraduate Studies in Music Therapy. Doctor of Music Art in the field of music theory. Assistant Professor at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, Deputy Rector for Evaluation and Development for the 2020–2024 term of office.

Research activity

She participated in several dozen scholarly conferences, gave lectures on Polish music at the Başkent University in Ankara and was a member of the scholarly committee of the 9th Hisarlı Ahmet Symposium in Kütahya (2018, Turkey). Since 2010 she has been associated with the Lower Silesian Festival of Science. Her texts have been published by the Academy of Music in Wrocław, the University of Silesia, the Polish Association of Teachers of Singing, Ossolineum and the ‘Remembrance and Future’ Centre.

Aleksandra Pijarowska’s scholarly interests are varied and focus on music history and theory, particularly the life, works and activity of Jan Antoni Wichrowski and Ryszard Bukowski and the history of the Academy of Music in Wrocław. She is also interested in the works of Polish composers of the second half of the 20th century and the Turkish composer Ahmet Adnan Saygun. She is the author of two monographs on Wrocław-based composers: Jan Antoni Wichrowski. Katalog tematyczno-bibliograficzny [Jan Antoni Wichrowski. A thematic and bibliographic catalogue] (2005) and Ryszard Bukowski. Człowiek i dzieło [Ryszard Bukowski. The man and his work] (2014), and of many chapters in joint monographs. She acts for the integration of the European academic and artistic circles, with the aim of exchanging ideas and bridging cultural gaps between various academic centres. She was the originator as well as scholarly and organisational head of the International Conference Music – the Cultural Bridge. Essence, Contexts, References (2020) and the scholarly editor of the publication under the same title. Both undertakings were part of the scholarly, educational and artistic project Eastern Academic Artistic Platform implemented in cooperation with the National Agency for Academic Exchange – International Academic Partnerships. She is the artistic director of the International Festival Music at Józef Ignacy Schnabel’s in Nowogrodziec and the scholarly head of the Conference Józef Ignacy Schnabel and His Epoch.

A significant part of Aleksandra Pijarowska’s activity is her work as a publicist and concert speaker. She hosted events organised by the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, the Academy of Music in Katowice, the Wrocław Branch of the Association of Polish Composers, the University of Wrocław, the Lower Silesian Festival of Science, the Young Polish Philharmonic Orchestra, the Wagner Society in Wrocław, and the National Forum of Music. She cooperated with the DUX recording label, the Leopoldinum Chamber Music Orchestra and the EuroSilesia Festival.

Aleksandra Pijarowska has been engaged in teaching activity at the Karol Lipiński Academy of music in Wrocław continuously since 2003. She has taught dozen or so different subjects, including group and individual classes. She has been a supervisor or reviewer of over 30 graduation theses in music theory.

Another important part of her activity is her organisational work for the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. She acted as the supervisor of the Research and Artistic Student Club of Composition and Music Theory (2003–2009), the Academy’s coordinator for optional courses (2005–2010), and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Composition, Conducting, Theory of Music and Music Therapy (2012–2020). She is a member of the Chair of Music Theory and History of Silesian Musical Culture (since 2006), the Senate of the Academy (since 2008), the Council of the Faculty of Composition, Conducting, Theory of Music and Music Therapy (since 2008), the Faculty Team for Ensuring and Developing Quality in Education (since 2013), and the team for the scholarly, teaching and artistic project Eastern Academic Artistic Platform implemented in cooperation with the National Agency for Academic Exchange – International Academic Partnerships (since 2018). She prepared documentation of the Faculty of Composition, Conducting, Theory of Music and Music Therapy for an extensive evaluation of scholarly, research and development activity (the so called ‘parametrisation’), as a result of which the Faculty was subsequently rated: A, A, A+. She was the organisational head of all-Polish student conferences organised by the Research and Artistic Student Club of the First Faculty, a member of teams preparing documentation of the composition and music theory field of study in accordance with the National Qualifications Framework (2012), the self-evaluation report for the PHExcel – Professional Higher Education Excellence Pilot Review carried out by the European Association of Institutions in Higher Education (EURASHE, 2015), the self-evaluation report for the institutional review by the international team of experts of the MusiQue Accreditation Committee, and a member of the group selected to meet the experts during their two visits at the Academy (2018–2019). She was also the head of the teams preparing the report for the institutional and programme evaluation by the Polish Accreditation Committee (2012, 2019), the head of the Rector’s Team for Quality Evaluation of the Artistic and Research Activity (2018–2020), a member of: the Senate Commission for Regulations and the Statute (2018–2020), the Rector’s Team for the Organisation System and Structure (2018–2020), and the Team for the Doctoral School and Postgraduate Studies (2018–2020).

She was granted the Rector’s Award six times (in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015), and she also received the Award of the College of Rectors of Wrocław and Opole Universities for the integration of academic circles (2008). She was a scholarship holder of the International Wagner Society. She received the Bronze and Silver Cross of Merit awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland.
