dr Marcin Misiak
Marcin Misiak was born in 1979. He started to play the cello when he was 6 years old. He graduated from his Primary Music School in Przemyśl as an exceptionally talented student. He continued to study under professor Stanisław Firley at the General Education Music I and II Grade Schools of Henryk Wieniawski in Łódź. Through this time he enriched his solo and cameral repertoire. Next he graduated from the Academy of Music in Wrocław still working under professor Stanisław Firlej and professor Urszula Marciniec-Mazur.
He performs with many orchestras throughout Europe and the USA. He took 2nd place in Michał Spisak’s Ist Polish Music Competition and he is also a laureate of II prize in a Competition of Small Instrumental Forms at The Music Academy of Karol Lipiński in Wrocław.
He has had the pleasure of working and performing with some great composers and artists such as John Williams, Lynn Harrell, Menahem Pressler, Stefan Popov or Kazimierz Michalik. He gained a scholarship under professor Eleonore Schoenfeld in The Thornton School of Music – University of Southern California. He has been a participant in many prestige courses and festivals such as the Zenon Brzewski International Music Course in
Łańcut, the Festival of Modern Music „MUSICA MODERNA” in Łódź and VIII Lower – Silesian Festival of Science (VIII Dolnośląski Festiwal Nauki) in Wrocław – inaugural concert.
He is a co-founder of the Leopoldinum Soloist String Trio who perform at the Music Academy in Wrocław. In everyday life he works actively as a soloist and chamber music player throughout Poland and Europe with various music groups. Currently he leads the cello section of the Leopoldinum Chamber Orchestra. Simultaneously he enjoys didactic work at the Music Academy of Wrocław where he is a Doctor of Arts. There, he has two classes under his supervision: cello and chamber music. He organizes masterclasses and concerts for students which greatly lift the level of their confidence and music skills.
He also participates in a scholarship at the Reina Sofia Music School in Madrid in Professor Gutner Pichler’s class (primarius of Alban Berg Quartet). Misiak is an experienced cello and chamber music teacher not only in highschools but also presents masterclasses at various music academies and universities across Europe eg. Gent (Belgium), Ostrava (Czech Republic).
