The Academic Baroque Orchestra

The Academic Baroque Orchestra was created in 2003 with the launch of the Interfaculty Laboratory of Early Music. Currently, the orchestra operates at the Department of the Organ, Harpsichord and Early Music, enabling students to perform with the orchestra and solo. The orchestra was previously managed by ad. kw. I st. Andrzej Kosendiak (2003-2005), mgr Zbigniew Pilch (2005-2007) and mgr Jarosław Thiel (2007-2013). Since 2013 the orchestra has been managed by mgr Bartosz Kokosza. The orchestra members are students of the Department of the Organ, Harpsichord and Early Music. The orchestra enlists the cooperation of young musicians specialising in other fields, i.e. students interested in gaining knowledge and experience in historical performance practice. The concert programmes feature compositions by the great masters of early music, as well as the lesser known and often forgotten composers of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Highlights in the history of the Academic Baroque Orchestra include performances at: the 13th ”May with Early Music” Festival (2004); the 40th International Wratislavia Cantans Festival (2005); Harpsichord Music Days (2006). In November 2014 the orchestra participated in a pioneering nationwide project bringing together Baroque orchestras of music academies from Poznań, Łódź and Wrocław to form the Interacademy Baroque Orchestra.
