The 17th International Conference “Traditions of Silesian Musical Culture”
Special Edition: “At the Crossroads of Europe”
March 25–27, 2025, Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław
We invite you to a unique academic event dedicated to the richness and diversity of Silesian musical culture, which will take place on March 25–27, 2025, at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. This year's 17th edition of the conference coincides with the period of Poland's presidency of the European Union, giving the event a special international dimension.
Silesia is a region of remarkable diversity, where a rich history and the coexistence and creative collaboration of multiple nationalities, religions, and communities have resulted in a unique cultural melting pot. This diversity will undoubtedly be reflected in the conference. The event will bring together distinguished specialists from Poland and abroad, who will engage in discussions on the history and contemporary phenomena related to Silesian musical culture, including Silesian folk music. Among the invited speakers are Thomas Ertelt, Tomasz Jeż, Barbara Przybyszewska-Jarmińska, and Remigiusz Pośpiech. The inaugural lecture will be delivered by prof. dr hab. Artur Błażejewski, an archaeologist and Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Wrocław.
International Scope
The conference will welcome researchers representing academic institutions from across Europe, including Berlin, Vienna, Prague, Brno, Bratislava, Leipzig, and Ostrava.
An integral part of the event will be chamber concerts featuring outstanding artists, including Charlotte Steppes – a young-generation German pianist – as well as faculty members of the Academy of Music in Wrocław.
Purpose and Significance
The aim of the conference is to promote the extraordinary musical heritage of Silesia, shape Wrocław’s cultural image as one of Europe’s key centers of musical culture, and emphasize regional identity. This event presents a unique opportunity for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and inspiration on an international forum.
The conference will culminate in a scientific publication featuring the participants’ articles and documenting their contributions, scheduled for release in 2026.
